financial education aidOne of the ways to support college education is by means of getting financial aid. Before you apply for one, you’ll have to take the preliminary steps first. The key step in getting a monetary help is identifying what type of applications you will assess.

As a candidate for a financial aid, you will have to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Besides FAFSA, you will also fill out a CSS profile which is another financial aid form. This was used by more than 250 colleges and universities across the state.

A new FAFSA form for the upcoming academic year is out as early as January 1. You need to get your own FAFSA pin while waiting for the application. Both the aspirant and the parents need to obtain a pin, which is needed to retrieve the family’s financial records. Your PIN can be used every year to automatically administer for federal student aid and to see your Federal Student Aid accounts online.

Additionally, you must register first with the College Board to complete your profile. Creating an account will help you manage your college list online and will calculate your future expenses in school. You will have to make sure that all the information you supply on your forms are accurate and prompt.
