Wifi Everywhere!

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Since February, when we arrived here in the Philippines, I was pleased when I had no problem in finding for a place where there is free internet access. I am happy because even the this country belongs to the third world, it’s not so left out when it comes to technology and updates involving the worldwide web. Wifi or wireless internet connection is everywhere here in the Philippines. Of course, it only applies to major cities and not the barrios. If ever foreigners would come and visit the place, they would just look for a cafe and order some goodies to have a free internet access.

Teacher's Advocacy

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

My auditor-turned-accounting professor friend shared to me his advocacy as a teacher. He told me that he’s going to be like a “big brother” kind of professor to his students. However, his way of defining a big brother is not the typical one. What he wanted is that he wanted to teach his students not to totally depend on their instructors. He wanted his students to learn how to be independent! He admits that his advocacy might be hard to achieve. But he’s positive that one way or another, he could make a change. Now that’s the spirit of a first time instructor eh!

Changing Course

Another friend of mine, who’s also working in an auditing firm, just recently bid good bye to the office where he’s currently working. He’s not going abroad, but he felt that it’s time for a sea change. He’s going to shift career! He accepted a teaching job in his alma mater school. From being an auditor, he is now an accounting professor. We had a long chat the other day and he said he’s excited and happy for his new job. He even said that there is less pressure in being an instructor than being an auditor. And the good friend that I am, I assured him that we (all our common friends and I) are in full support of his chosen career.
